Because thoughts will pull a person out of the experience most of the time. So, meditation is the remaining practice in this state of consciousness that is pure for durations that are longer until that experience of being conscious in a way that is pure is dominant. The above practices are perfect when it comes to attaining self-realization or having spiritual awakening but they are not complete because there is a second factor.
